Board of Directors & Executive Committee

Michael S. Godner
Mr. Godner is a partner and member of the Board of Directors and Investment Committee of Lancewood and all affiliate companies of the family office. Mr. Godner oversees the family office and is primarily responsible for the investment, capital markets, finance, and legal departments. Mr. Godner joined Cavalry in 1999, shortly after its inception, and played a critical role in developing the business from a small start-up to an industry leader. Prior to joining Cavalry, Mr. Godner was a Managing Director and principal of a New York City based family office with a specialty finance focus in the areas of non-performing consumer debt, non-performing mortgages, and sub-prime auto finance. Prior to this, Mr. Godner was the co-founder and President of Emigrant Funding Corp., a specialty finance company in the non-conforming, commercial mortgage industry. Throughout his career, Mr. Godner has invested in and managed over $50B of credit assets. Mr. Godner received his B.A. from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
Alfred J. Brothers
Mr. Brothers is a partner and member of the Board of Directors and Investment Committee of Lancewood and all affiliate companies of the family office. Mr. Brothers is primarily responsible for strategic planning, investment decisions and analytics. Mr. Brothers helped start Cavalry and played a critical role in developing the business from a small start-up to an industry leader. Prior to this, Mr. Brothers held positions as a Senior Manager with BDO Seidman, LLP in the firm’s Financial Services Consulting Group and as President and CEO of a Mid-Atlantic savings bank. Mr. Brothers has extensive consulting experience in the areas of strategic planning, mergers and acquisition and real estate lending. He has co-authored two books published by the American Bankers Association, speaks frequently conferences, and has published many articles on the distressed debt industry and sales of distressed consumer debt. Throughout his career, Mr. Brothers has invested in, sourced, and managed over $50B of credit assets. Mr. Brothers received his M.S. in Mathematical Statistics from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and B.A. with Honors in Mathematics from Oberlin College.

Alexander Zaro

Advisory & Strategy
Alexander Zaro is an advisor to Lancewood focusing on the development of new investment strategies and markets for the business and the family office generally. Alex is also the President of Cavalry and has played a significant role in business development and growth of the company. Prior to joining the family office, Alex worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, BGC Partners and Tullett Prebon. Alex holds a BS in business management from the Carey Business School at ASU where he graduated summa cum laude. Over his career, he has been involved in the investment and management of over $30B of capital.
Tino Martins

Director of Real Estate

Tino Martins is the Director of Lancewood Capital with responsibility for day-to-day management of the business. He joined Lancewood Capital in 2014. Prior to Lancewood, Tino held portfolio management roles at Ellington Management Group, a mortgage-focused hedge fund manager. During his 9 years at Ellington, he oversaw residential and small-balance commercial loan acquisition, servicing, and trading strategies, created, and implemented several pricing models and acquired over $5.8B of commercial and residential mortgages. Prior to joining Ellington, Tino was Senior Risk Manager for Parker Global Strategies, a CT-based fund-of-funds. He focused on portfolio optimization and hedging to reduce systematic risk and increase alpha. Previous experience also included financial advisory and qualified retirement planning roles. Tino earned a B.S. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts.

Justin Godner is on the Loan Originations Team at Lancewood Capital. Justin joined Lancewood Capital in 2017 and has been instrumental in the firm’s originations. Justin is responsible for the origination, structuring, underwriting, and servicing of lender finance opportunities and direct bridge lending opportunities in the $1mm-$50mm space. Since Joining Lancewood, Justin has been involved in over $500mm of commercial real estate debt transactions and has been involved in over $1B of real estate transactions since the start of his career. Justin is NY-based and actively focuses on the New York, Florida, and California markets. Prior to Lancewood, Justin worked at Eastdil Secured, Olmstead Properties and Wells Fargo. Justin graduated with honors from Syracuse University where he earned a degree in Economics and Real Estate.
Matt Schatzle

Matt Schatzle is on the Loan Originations team at Lancewood Capital. He joined Lancewood Capital in 2019. Matt is responsible for the origination, structuring and underwriting of bridge lending opportunities in the $1mm-$50mm space. Since joining Lancewood, Matt has been involved in over $350mm commercial real estate debt transactions and has been involved in over $1B of real estate transactions since the start of his career. Matt is NY-based and actively focuses on the New York and Florida markets where he has deep rooted connections. Prior to Lancewood, Matt worked at Hirshmark Capital, Anderson Carr and The Delray Beach Redevelopment Agency. Matt graduated from Florida State University where he earned a B.S. in Management.
Stephen Zaro

Stephen Zaro is on the Loan Originations team at Lancewood Capital. Stephen in responsible for the origination, structuring, and underwriting of bridge loans in the $1mm - $50mm space. Stephen is New York based and actively focuses on the New York market in addition to a variety of other major markets throughout the United States. Prior to joining Lancewood in February of 2021, Stephen worked as a commercial mortgage broker at Estreich & Company. At Estreich & Company, Stephen was responsible for arranging debt and equity for the firm’s extensive client base. Stephen graduated with a BA from Syracuse University.
Jeremy Zaro

Jeremy Zaro oversees the Capital Markets division for Lancewood Capital, LLC. Jeremy is responsible for managing the capital needs for the business and the family office generally. Jeremy is also the VP of Capital Markets of Cavalry where he has helped manage and facilitate a substantial credit facility for over 10 years. Jeremy also runs Bala Partners, LLC, a company that actively acquires tax liens in multiple states. Prior to joining the family office, Jeremy worked for a natural gas options and futures trader. Jeremy holds a BA in Political Science and History from the University of Michigan.

Erik Jaszcar

Erik Jaszcar is part of the portfolio servicing, and underwriting team at Lancewood Capital. Erik joined Lancewood Capital in 2022. Erik is primarily responsible for the serving and underwriting of Lancewood’s loan portfolio. In addition to servicing and underwriting, he works closely with the accounting and IT departments. Prior to Lancewood, Erik gained experience at Arbor Realty Trust, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, and the Toyon Group where he primarily focused on the underwriting, processing, and servicing of commercial real estate loans. Erik graduated from Hofstra University and received a master’s degree in Real Estate Finance & Investments from New York University.
Vincent Sabia

Vincent joined Lancewood Capital in 2022. Prior to joining Lancewood, Vincent gained experience working for a multifamily landlord in Westchester, NY. Vincent graduated with honors from Brooklyn College where he earned a degree in Business Economics. Vincent was awarded with a perfect math SAT score among other academic accolades.
